This solution focuses on a seamless digital experience that integrates with existing Origin systems, providing a reimagined customer experience with real-time vehicle availability and a comprehensive management platform for Origin to deliver on its EV ambitions.

Swapping petrol for electricity

With one of the highest rates of car ownership per 1000 people in the world, it’s no secret Australians love cars. After electricity generation and manufacturing, transport is Australia’s third highest source of emissions. Electrification of transport is a significant opportunity for Australia to reduce its emissions and for Australian business employees to support the target of net zero by 2050 when choosing their next car.

Origin Energy sees a unique opportunity to make it easier for everyday Australians to get behind the wheel of an EV and drive uptake of EVs in the wider market, through subscriptions and fleets made available to Australian businesses. 

Building a platform fit for the future

Mantel was initially engaged by Origin Energy to deliver strategic guidance and drive momentum for the development of their EV subscription management platform. The approach to the platform build was akin to a ‘lean startup’, with a focus on rapidly producing a working technology product that showcased the innovative business model, rather than traditional long planning cycles and delivery timelines.

In this initial phase, Mantel provided essential architectural and engineering capabilities, enabling the successful completion of proof-of-value exercises and validating the platform’s integration with other Origin systems.

Since then, an expanded Mantel team is now working closely with Origin eMobility to drive the future of the platform, focusing on the user experience and customer engagement for their EV Subscription; a flexible, innovative employee benefits program that lets employees take advantage of the Australian Government’s EV tax incentives via salary packaging, without needing to commit to a car long-term.

Powering EV update through Australia

The Origin 360 EV subscription management platform accelerates Origin’s sales process and drives sustained customer engagement by delivering personalised experiences throughout the eMobility product portfolio. Features are designed to enable Origin to experiment and iterate easily, ensuring continuous improvement with minimal resource allocation.

Looking ahead, Mantel and Origin eMobility are exploring where Agentic AI models can further improve the EV subscription experience, and reduce Origin eMobility’s cost-to-serve based on the technology advancements that are now available.
